JOB DESCRIPTION

R. M. Pyles Boys Camp is a summer camp serving low-income, disadvantaged boys from southern California. The youth are selected on the basis of financial need, lack of male role model in home, potential delinquent behavior and leadership ability. Ages range from 12-14 years old. There is no cost to the family for attending camp.

Pyles Boys Camp provides a rugged, 10-day camping experience that is used as a vehicle to instill self-confidence, pride, the value of hard work and respect for others. Highly-structured program.

Activities include: Nightly campfire, horseback, nature, ropes course, archery, health and fitness programs, a five-day backpack trip as well as work details and cabin inspection.

Group counselors are responsible for group of eight campers throughout the 10-day session, including leading a five-day backpack trip.

QUALIFICATIONS

Previous camp experience, leadership ability, current certification for first aid and CPR/AED, experience in backpacking and outdoor living skills. Applicants should also be able to listen and relate to youth, initiate and lead discussions, and be a positive role model. Must be willing to work long hours.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES

Your position may include any of the following: Sitting and/or standing for extended periods of time, operation of a motor vehicle, walking, climbing stairs, lifting up to 50 pounds, hiking for extended periods in wilderness settings, hearing and speaking to communicate and exchange information and make presentations, seeing to observe accuracy of reports and documents, dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer terminal and standard office equipment.

SALARY RANGE:      $200 - $450 DOE Per 10-day session, plus room and board

JOB DESCRIPTION

Pyles Boys Camp is located in the southern Sequoia National Forest at an elevation of 5500 feet, a beautiful setting for a summer job.

This position requires a personal desire to give to boys in need.  We serve disadvantaged boys from 5 counties in southern California.  Camp season June through August.  Each session is 10 days long.

Camp activities include horseback riding, archery, ropes course, crafts, a 5-day backpack trip into the wilderness and much more.  The camp population at its highest during each session is between 140-150 campers and staff

QUALIFICATIONS

You will be expected to provide for the general health of campers and staff.  This will include maintaining the camp health center, medical screening  of campers and staff, dispensing medications, providing first aid and nursing care in case of illness or accident.  You will keep accurate records and file appropriate reports for insurance and/or state.  You will work under the technical direction of a licensed physician who is on call.
